Afterwards for cutting
off Officer Volunteers
and establishing a counter-force,
it attempted to
establish Fencibles
with commissions from
Monarch or Vice Roy,
thus under law military.
People indignant, scheme abortive.
Volunteer army not diminished
but encreased
At another time for the purpose in hope of cutting off the
nose of weight and distinction from their selection of Volunteers in the army
of Associated Volunteers and at the same time establishing
a counter force they set in foot a body of ten
under the name of Fencibles, the Officers of which should
receive commission from the Monarch or the Vice Roy
and b thereby under Military law be placed under his
command in the way of military law. But the design
being so manifest, the Volunteers people were filled with indignation
and instead of the expected check and diminution the Volunteers
experience receive increase
