3 No course of procedure
obligatory if in opposition
to the summary
3. That, as to mode and course, on no occasion should it be
matter of duty to him to proceed, in any other mode or course or
manner than he would if sitting in judgement on the
conduct of his own children, or his own servants, —
that is to say the course which thence took the
name of summary; in contradistinction to that
so exquisitely elaborated dilatory course, which he
saw pursuing by the minor sinister interest of the fee-fed
and trading class of judges: a course by far too
absurd and palpably repugnant to its professed
ends, to have even been pursued by any master of
a family, sane or insane.
