Review of Humphreys
8 Adopt without amendment
The supposed amendments of which I have here paraded
a specimen may in this point of view at any rate have some their
use. If by a man without authority and without influence,
such imperfections have been pointed out - so more ostensible no pretence
for doubts and difficulties what might not be the obstacles
raised by a mind which with all the pure authority
and address sufficient to give to the trust the un variety of the
lost cause, his time the period of its maturity been occupied
by nothing at any rate by nothing better than the
generation of doubts?
Let it be judged whether it would be wantonly, and
without due consideration, that a man whose whole life has
been a life of deep reflection - who has neither to give
and his whole reputation to lose should the course recommended
prove to be a pernicious one would then committ
to hazard whatsoever reputation it may happen to have
to be in possession of in the ground of product.
