The British Constitution
conquered in
New South Wales.

The appetite for conquest is too strong in man
to be difficult in its choice, in respect either of matter either of the subject
mode, or place. When the conquest of America was
the order of the day, America was conquered in
Germany, as it would have been in the moon,
rather than that it should not be conquered. America
having since [taken itself into its own hands,
and] conquered itself within itself, much remains
not of that the prior conquest, besides unless it be the honour and glory—
in which, however, is was contained all the value of it.
