Wishing to enter upon apply to enter upon
Having had occasion to the subject.
with a degree of exactness in to stating of the
spirit if not of to the letter of mathematics
I found the complexion of what I had to say
but ill suited to the task of the generality of
readers — to comevery little of the complexion
of that sort of work which a reader of the
same would prefect expect to find in a
paper on a subject appearing by its title to
come within the department of political politics
economy — and such as the properties by
which it seemed for a pamphlet
even such as seemed to render it but the
minor to the dangers of the respectable
society to which I take the liberty of
addressing it by your hand
