Dear Papa

I received your letter of the 8th instant, which indeed
did not give me so much pleasure as your letters usually do, as
it disappointed me of my expectations of your coming hither;
tho' indeed considereing the uncertainty of human affairs, (and
especially of yours,) I did not entirely depend upon it. I had put
