Joula, if you should go by that way, if is a very remarkable
place for manufactories,
particularly
in Ironwork & arms; the Russian Birmingham.
Near Jula is the Lake called Iwan from which
springs the Don, & two rivers Shatt & Ossett,
which flow towards the <add> Occa & Volga; Peter the great
projected here a connexion of the Don & Occa.
Beyond Kiew, & in all places situated or bordering
upon the Crimean desert, it is worth
while to enquire, particularly at the Silversmiths,
for Old Roman Coins & other Antiquities.
Sometimes such things are found
with the Cossacks & other common peoples.
About Assof they say plenty of old medals
are found.

yourself. But if your journey to Asstracan
& from thence by the way of Cazan should take
place, the following hints may porve useful:
The hotwells on the river Jerek, on the Caucasean
side, overagainst Jshervlenoi, are equal to the
most famous Wells in Europe. The borders of
the river Jerek are remarkably fine, lined with
