1. As to First half-period of six years.
Numbers shipped off, and thence provided for, in
the course, of this period—4,466.+
Supposing the number thus shipped off had been
the same fo every year of the period, on this supposition 2,233, being half the total
amount, would, as before, be have been the average of
the number provided for in each year. The
average is rather too high since the greater
number did not come to be provided for till the
close of the period, but the attempt to correct the
inaccuracy would render the calculation too intricate
supposition is not exactly conformable to the truth, but
for striking an average no other, (it should seem) can could be assumed.
