Under George III Conspiracy
for absolute
monarchy
In the early part of the reign of George the third
under the encouragement given by the Monarch and his Mother
the Princess of Wales a conspiracy between the Earl of Bute
Prime Minister, the Earl of Mansfield Chief Justice of the Kings
Bench and the Markham Archbishop of York who had
been Preceptor to the King, appears to have been formed, for
the establishment of absolute pure Monarchy, in lieu of the aristocracy
ridden Monarchy which that Monarch in his elevation
to the throne established.

Society of Supporters
of the Bill of Rights
In opposition to this unpunishable conspiracy
a Society was formed in London under the name of the Supporters
of the Bill of Rights. The leading members of it were the
Radicals of those days. It had for its members few men of any
considerable note. But by the joint co-operative exertion of the Whigs and
the Radicals the conspiracy received experienced productive to
the degree of which the present state of the Government presents
the evidence.
