Collectanea Anglica Debtors & Creditors Lords Debate or Redisdale's Bill.
From the Morning Chronicle June 9 1812
House of Lords. June 7.
Insolvent Debtors.
Lord Redesdale moved the Order of the Day for
taking into consideration the Report of the Insolvent
Debtors Bill.
The Earl of Moira after complimenting the Noble &
Learned Lord for his conduct in bringing forward this
measure moved, with a view to the further consideration
of some Amendments which he wished to propose, to
discharge the Order for taking the Report onto consideration;
suggesting at the same time, that if it was
found impracticable to get through the Bill in the
present Session, that a temporary Insolent Bill
might be passed.—
The Lord Chancellor & Lord Ellenborough also wished
to postpone the consideration, in order that there might be
time for the maturely considering in private the amendments
which it was wished to propose: and at the same time
stated their readiness to support a temporary Insolvent Bill,
if it should be found impracticable to get through the proposed
permanent measure during the present Session.
Lord Redesdale agreed to the postponement.
The Earl of Lauderdale gave notice of his intention to propose
a temporary Bill for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors in
a decision upon it.
