§ 11 Disarmed Memorial
Inaction could have done with me to the end of
my life – or to the end of an antediluvian
life. But inaction would do no longer
with Mr Nepean. What is the matter with
you? what stops you? what dirt is there
at the bottom of all this stoppage? – To put
an end to such importunities the interrogations such as these, it was necessary
to give up the plan of more inaction a declared and put an end to the business whole
business: but to the whole business such end
could not be put otherwise than by one act
of the Board. For the Board to act, it
was necessary for them to have a specific ground to
act upon: thence came the necessary of a
Memorial from me, and that Memorial in
an unarmed and defenceless state.
The An apparent encrease of terms having been pitched
upon as the pretence – and the concession extorted
by Mr Nepean and me thus turned against us had
and rendered subservient to the secret purpose –
it was not only convenient but necessary that
my Memorial should be made to contain the demand
of an apparent encreae of terms: and as in
pursuance of the same system this demand
was extracted in a state of defenceless nakedness
without my with scarce any part of
those explanatory statements and reasons the whole of which
would not have been too much for its support – it
