to the personal appearance of the parties before the Judge at the very
outset of the suit, and the importance which actually belongs to
this arrangement actually belongs
More express are the terms in which this arrangement
is spoken of is one which constitutes the leading feature of
the system: over and over again in the same character is it
brought to view. First, in page 42: then in p. 54, then again
in page 59.

any tendency to the production of any such good effect is observable
