Procedure Code
Applied to the body in so far as they are preventive they
are Exsubstitutive: applied to the mind they are either of its
cast or of the operating by the eventual expectation
of good; by the eventual expectation of evil.
Of this though the effectual operation is never so well
as that of the may be made to be still in this or
that instance the application is possible. In or a suit
however it is not possible: and is therefore put in
than lest a false statement should be made than to that nothing is that no false statement
is made.
In so far as When for the purpose of evil is applied, punishment
is said to be applied. Not only For other purpose
than this but for other purposes than the production of good in
any way evil may be and in no unhappily large proportion
is continually applied: for example for the gratification of antipathy
– in the breast of one person the appetite for the sight of of suffering in the
breast of another: but for a purpose other than the production
of good consistently with the greatest happiness principle
can it be.
But here it has already been one satisfaction good to the
be administered but evil in some shape and quality or
is produc by the very operation produced at the same time. So
far as this the of the in question
from a repetition of the wrong, or by the speculation of it other from
the imitation of it, the effect of punishment is or may be produced
without any sufferi additional suffering produced for that and or
other purpose: and thus is the evil of punishment minimized.
