Of Culpable Insolvency.

professional Man and the Trader ; The Whole-sale Trader or
Merchant , and the Retailer ; The Master-workman or Trader
and the Journeyman ; The Male sex and the Female; The
married Man or Woman and the Single : He whose Income
is assured , and he from him whose income was is precarious; depending
for instance upon from uncertain employment or the bounty of Relations:
All or many of these conditions of life might be treated upon
a footing somewhat different .
Young Women ought not to be subject to Confinement for Insolvency . With regard to women , in order to avoid destroying their delicacy , & perhaps their virtue , Perhaps it were better that no short of person of that sex who is under a certain
woman
age should be put into any place of confinement : to avoid destroying
her delicacy and perhaps her Virtues: unless the confinement
were solitary ; in which case being so much the severer,
it ought to be so much the shorter . If women so circumstanced
were not to be confined at all , where would be the harm ?
The It seems probable that, a badge of disgrace such as is above proposed . would make as strong an impression upon
that tender Sex , as that and the confinement together would
upon men. Even if it should did not, where would be the inconvenience harm ? If
persons thus circumstanced found it a little more difficult to get Credit
