No 4. Spirituous liquors. p. 471. April 1796. Toward preventing
the indiscriminate sale of spirits which at this time
prevailed in all the settlements, the Governor thought that
granting licenses to a few persons of good character might
have a good effect — [+] "[+]Ten persons were "selected by the Magistrates "and to them licenses for "twelve months, under "the hands of three "magistrates were granted. "The principals were "bound in the usual "penalties of twenty "pounds cash, and "obliged to find his "securities in his "friends." So far the Judge Advocate; for any
hope on this occasion is that th at this time now in April the "design that
"had been formed by individuals of making application to the
"Governor" did not appear quite so strong, as in the preceding
January.
