How far they admitt of degrees.
Obscurity it is evident in both cases admitts of
degrees. In the first case it is measured by the
ratio of these the number of the persons to whom it is unintelligible to
that of those the persons to whom it is intelligible: in
the second case by the time during which it
continues unintelligible to a person to whom
at length it becomes intelligible. Perspicuity may
in the same manner though with less propriety
be considered as susceptible of degrees. It is
at it's maximum when the upon the appearance
of the term the idea presents itself instantly
in the mind of every one. It is at its minimum
where it co-incides with total and absolute
unintelligibility. [Perspicuity as far as
Apprehensibility
it regards the article of time may be termed
apprehensibility or facility of apprehension
Amplitude. Precision.
Amplitude is opposed to inadequatness: precision
to erroneousnessinappositeness -latitude and
ambiguity.
