Dear Papa July 6th 1761.
I have just now taken a place in Kemp's
Machine for Fryday, and hope to meet you and Mr Blank-
-ley at the Pack-horse at Turnham-Green that Even-
-ing. I have had a sad misfortune since I wrote to you
last, namely the loss of my other Pocket book in much
the same manner as I lost t'other, as I was walking
with one or two of my Acquaintance a good deal be-
-low Christ-church not far from Friar Bacon's Stud-
-dy, therwhich place tho' perhaps you do not know; there were two
Men a quarrelling, and a Multitude of blackguard ga-
-thered about them, and some few Gownsmen, and it
