There is not the least Expectation of your seeing Charles in Holland tho' he means to come
over, that way; he proposes to go thro' Switzerland up the Rhine, to Strasbourg Cologne &
into Holland, but he will hardly be there this month or five weeks, if you have
any chance of seeing or or hearing of him, it will be by means of Mr Hope
one of the first Merchants at Amsterdham, to where he has a Letter of Recommendation
from Sir Robt Herris & Co & to where you have probably one from Mr Thelosse
if you have it ok, you may make use of her Thelusson's name to him; for any
purpose of Enquiry. but above all things take care my dear Sam, not to make
your stay too long. at Holland, or elsewhere, to be too late for a safe Passage
from Copenhagen to Petersburgh —
