Your Committee had proceeded thus far
on their inquiries, when by mere accident a fact came to light
which throws a new claim upon the complexity
of this business. In Woolwich Warren, under
the management of the Board of Ordnance no less than
5 pints of Beer, x are given to the Convicts thus
employ'd. By Beer we presume is meant
strong Beer, and x Porter being the cheapest
kind of srong Beer, that we presume is the
sort. Five pints of Porter at 1 3/4 per pint

profit upon the labour of the Common—Labourer
past it reduced it from 1s to 3d 1/4.
