Junctiana Proposal
By the proposed union of interests and defensive
force between Mexico, Columbia, and the Anglo
American United States, this security will be afforded
to a degree evidently beyond any in which it cold be
afforded by either of the two new States standing alone.
Whether with the proposed security
in view, an association of capitalists to a sufficient
amount would on any terms engage with Mexico alone,
seems altogether questionable.
On the part of Mexicon, the danger against
which it would look for secuurity is not only eventual
disinclination, but eventual inability: inability to secure
to the Company the possession of the stipulated
benefits. For this possession, were the power of Mexico
the only security, the Company would be dependent
on every other power, which, at any point of time howsoever
distant, might happen to find itself in a state
of hostility with Mexico. Should any eventwar in which Mexico were a party at any
time have place, (and can it rationally be supposed
that at no time it place?)
