So intimate has a habit begun almost with life
& continued thru' every active moment of it
render'd the commission of betweenwords withand Ideas, that tho'
words, maydo very well often make their appearance without
any distinct Ideas, yet Ideas can hardly be have but a very imperfect
existence perceptibility without the words to which they
have been thus undeterminably uninterruptedly conjoined. - whensoever
I have been searching for a word, I have been seemed
to myself as if feeling for the Idea itself to which
it is annexed, nor could I recognize the presence
of the Idea tillthe instant I had as it were laid hold of it:
