Dear Sir.

Having returned all the other pamphlets you were
good enough to lend me for a specific period, I know not by
what accident the accompanying one has been brought
back to France, and now take the earliest opportunity of
returning it with many thanks for the perusal and an apology
for its detention.

Aware of your numerous occupations, I have abstained
from breaking in on your time of late, and
should not have done so in the present instance,
but that I think ought to explain why I left London,
without communicating the circumstance to you.
