At the earnest pressing sollicitation <add>repeated desire</add> and re-iterated instances
of the Author of the proposal for a currency by stock note spoken of in the
enclosed Paper made to me through the medium
of a common friend — (for, to keep my mind
free from bias I know we do yet know
who he is) I engaged in the examination a review of it.
He speaks of it as having appeared to have made
a favourable impression on the by very high authority
in matters of finance : as by which is to be understood
if what I have ha has reached my ears
from other quarters be correct — the very highest
In my own instance this impression of the first
moment was sinister : — but a clear examination
did not confirm it. Compelled, by the view I have
taken of it the plan to regard it as impracticable, it appears I hope
to me that I do no injury I shall not be regarded as affording the ungracious brother
any ground for complaining of one, in submitting
to you, too, what has appeard not only to myself, but to several
intelligent men by whom the some proposition
had been entertained to be amount to a demonstration of the
impracticability of it: for if it really be in its
impracticable, the sooner it is understood to be so, so much the
better for all parties who are concerned.
