Influence
May my tongue chase to the roof of my
mouth never to part from it I descend stoop
to an unfair advantage as I think
Perish this hand
it stoop
one thing and say another I lay hold
of a prejudice and influence it because I find
it on my side.
The safety of the people his is not on the vista
of their pretended representations — not in the
exertion of the pampered sons of opulence and
its inseparable attendants indolence and ignorance — but in the vigilance of the people.
The less they are cared for the more they will
care for themselves: the more regularly and
pertinaciously and palpably they are betrayed by the aristocratical noble
representation, the more seriously they will
think of insisting on a real deputation. The
liberties of this a country like this can never
be in danger till the liberty of the press is
destroyed which spite of the endeavours
of lawyers it will never be, for the passion
of the people of this country has its bounds.
