Users must create an account in order to transcribe documents and save contributions. Pick a user name and fill out the form. After registration, you should receive a verification link via email and this will allow you to login to the Transcription Desk. If your confirmation email does not appear to have arrived, please check your Junk folder.
Click on My Preferences in the toolbar at the top of the screen to tailor the site to your needs. Here you can change your password and personal details; re-set the language and adjust the screen layout. You can opt to receive e-mails when a page on your watchlist (see below) has been edited.
To watch a page is to monitor the edits on the page. Watch a page by clicking 'Watch' on the row of page tabs at the top of any page. Your watchlist can be accessed by clicking My Watchlist on the tool bar at the top of the screen or by viewing your profile (see below). Your watchlist will display the recent changes made on each of your watched pages. Users are encouraged to use this feature in order to keep track of transcriptions they are in the process of editing. You can receive notifications by e-mail when one of your watched pages has been edited by clicking on the option in your preferences (see above).
Here you will find a list of all the contributions you have made to the site including any transcriptions you have done; edits you have made to pages; and the dates on which these changes were made. Access your contributions by clicking on My Contributions in the toolbar at the top of the screen or by viewing your profile (see below).
Once you are logged in you can click on your user name on the horizontal tool bar at the top of the page. You will be directed to your profile page.
You can upload an avatar and supply biographical information about yourself.
Tell us about your favourite Bentham book, quote or piece of trivia, and anything else you want to share with the Transcribe Bentham community.
You can add other users as friends, and post public or private messages to their message boards.
You can check your message board at any time by clicking on your username on the page tabs.
Through your profile you can also access a list of your own contributions; view the pages you have added to your watchlist; and see the level you have reached and the number of points you have been awarded for your transcriptions. Users are awarded points for edits and advance up the progress ladder as points are accumulated.
