This it was proposed in Parliament to remedy. The Minister's
answer was , Nolaurius legas Anglia inutare , It is to be observed that the
revenue he was so anxious to preserve could be no more than that arising
from the treasury of so many persons who should be deemed by the
proper tribunal themselves persons of dishonest conversation dangerous character or their houses so many more than
right to be. So that this was an absolute taster of good morals for a
little surely but a little money. But of the money of a nation an
account is demanded at the hands of the Minister , &
of the Morals , none. The quantity of money is seen by weights & scales.
The Quantity of Morality is neither to be weighed nor measured Good Morals are not weighted out in Pounds & Ounces, & to be paid into the Exchequer. ,

The Law of this provision is not less questionable than
the policy. The person to whom the liberty of carrying
on the business in the house became vacant in
