It may seem at first right that the diivisionanalysis above {Faint pencil note}
given of the several possible modes of confinement
is not imcomplete. ForLoco-motion is only the motion of
the whole body: to wit with reference to circum-jacent
bodies. But the motion of the limbsmembersi:e: with reference
to the rest of the body, might, it may seem at first
sight, be inter prohibited and put a stop to in consequence
of a prohibition. Upon for<add>reflection</add> the consideration however, So This I believe will however oes not appear
to be the case. It is not There will not I believe be
found any member in a man's body which it is in
his power to debar from allby the mere effort of his will motion unless by without debar
keeping his whole body at at the same time from motion. at such & such of from moving
unless by without using mechanical I mean by the mere
effort of his will, and without the use of mechanical using mechanic external applications;
to confinement in which case the punishment
ceases under the description of transient Disablement
A man indeed may refrain from moving it in such
and such directions and on such and such occasions;

general head of restrictive punishment.
