Popular Morality an conformed mass chaos of insipid declamations
random assertions and in consequent conclusions

Where they are right
tho' unobserved
and in great measure
from that right

+ It is this that still guides them by its lustre tho'
obscured by a cloud of empty hollow & unexpressive words
with which this subject more than any other has been
oppressed.

In the details they go on well enough for the most part
because they naturally & in superceptibly submit
themselves to the guidance of this principle — and accord we <add>any assignation whatsoever relative to this subject which
we approve of that our approbation is shall</add> find
upon the most rigorous & minute investigation with the regard
to every position either founded upon
this principle or upon none at all.
