he & every thing about him are so perfectly known:
to me everything is perfectly unknown.

Either there is time for his hearing from them
or there is not. If there, he can have no need
of assistance from a stranger: if there is not, it
is his misfortune, and I see no reason for making
it mine.

If at the time of his applying to a stranger,
he had applied to those friends, in the first
instance, he might have received an answer
from them by this time: for aught I know, considerably
before this time: at any rate within
a day or two after the time.
