vessels the navigation, and by semicircular trench, which
might be soon and easily cut, compleat the insulation.
The island thus formed would afford space for
the principal building (a twelve-sided polygon of
about 120 foot diameter) together with a detached
Watch-House or two for greater security, all mounted
upon piles. Thesituation of the building thus perched, would be stationed
like that of a ship at moorings: in a word, so far like that of the
present Hulks. Should It would be accessible by
water only: it would have no communication with the
Land. There is no individual to whom it would be
or could so much as be fancied to be, a prejudice. It
has not a House I suppose within a mile of it or
more, except one inconsiderable new built House close
to the River, which I was told was a Public House,
and from which it is distant half a mile at least.
