Whigs and Revolution
Let us consider what was the nature of the desease at
that time-let us compare with it that which is the nature of
the desease at this present time.
The features by which the Constitution of this political
state was distinguished ⧼toolbar-peri-deletion⧽ by its advantage from that every monarch such
other Constitutional state where that whereas in every other state
without any exception worth regarding to the present purpose
the Monarch had it in his power on the of
Government without the concurrence of any Representative of
the people capable of affording any effectual resistance, in this
Country the Monarch had for such a length oftime been in the
habit of calling in and thus encumbering himself with that
the sort of check thus bearing upon his Authority that to rid himself
of it had become at difficult at least if not impracticable.
Here then was a check and that of a sort peculiar
this country. But the misfortune was that, considering the
and quantity of the power possessed by the Monarch upon
an independent footing, this check was in its very nature a corruptible
: and not only so but such an one as sooner or
