To+ render our view persuasion of the slightness of the mischief
produced by this crime, it is to be observed, that in
murder in general, even where an adult is the suffering subject
of object the Crime, if we abstract the misery mischief occasioned
to his more immediate connections and the community by
the Grief && Terror consequent upon the event, the mischief
remaining will be little more than nominal
will be so slight as to be hardly susceptible of .
For with respect to the pain sustained in
consequence of the murderous destroying act, which it may well be
supposed, & for this I must appeal to the observation of
the faulty Physicians that this upon an average, is if
any thing rather inferior to that with which
natural last illnesses are also upon an average accompanied.
There remains then only to be taken into
the account that part of the mischief which comes to
in the loss of that remaining portion of happiness which the
sufferer might be supposed to have enjoyed had his
life been protracted to it's natural period length
