Article on Utilitarianism

§ 1
Substitution by JB of the
name of greatest happiness
principle
to
that of principle
of utility

It was not till within these few years, in consequence of the still that habit of
closer and closer and ever important to which mankind has been is indebted for
his discoveries that Mr Bentham arrived at last at the principle
that in the same phrase the greatest happiness of the greatest number
tastes a source of misconception. [The discovery made certain
was but in making communication of it to all such persons where situation as
happens to be within the field of his intercourse disc. oral and written together.]
But Unhappily errors once made are made the more
work of art and science more especially, errors once fuller
are not so easily corrected as the comm perception
of them is communicated]
