To all to whom these presents shall come greeting
Whereas in and by the Statute of the 7thJuly
in the year of our Lord the 1796 and of his Majesty's
reign the 36 as entitled "an Act for creating
"A Penitentiary House or Houses for confining and employing
"convicts" it is amongst other power is given
to the Lord "Commissioners of his Majestys the Treasury
among for the time being to provide a proper spot upon for the erection of such House
or Houses + +upon which shall be erected upon which shall be erected one or more "Penitentiary House "or Houses for the purpose "of confining and "employing in hard "Labour such convicts "as shall be removed "thither by order of his "Majesty, his officers "or + under the powers "therein mentioned" + p. 1222 and for the purpose thereof "to fix" either
upon a certain piece or pieces of ground therein
and herein after described "or upon any other as
convenient and proper spot of ground" situated
and circumstanced as therein mentioned, as
also when such spot or spots shall have been so fixed upon
also "to appoint a or to for
"the absolute purchase in fee simple" of the spot or
spots to be fixed upon as aforesaid same "and
to accept to accept a conveyance "to accept in which
feoffee or feoffers
