of censure more or less severe even according to
less loose system. If there had been a remarkable
degree of fondness between the Husband married couple if any
particular arts had been employed on the part of the Gallant to weaken this
fondness, if the gallant had been treated by the husband
with hospitality on the footing of a guest, if he
had insinuated himself into the family by pretending
extraordinary friendship for the husband, if he has
been under particular obligation to him, if he had
taken advantage of the confidence reposed in him when
on any particular occasion the woman had been
entrusted to his care. if through any imprudence
or vanity on his part the secret had has been betrayed:
especially if any particular prejudice had has resulted
to the family in consequence of the discovery.

Besides this if the husband be of a condision
considerably inferior to that of the Gallant, a sort
of imperfect duty is conceaved to be contracted by the Gal
latter of patronizing the husband in return for
the pleasure enjoy'd at his expence.

Vagueness of the subject With regard to this point there will always
be a kind of schism among mankind. A man will
look upon this practise with a greater or less degree
