Offence against Condition — Adultery. Reasons

here since a woman of that stamp is in no likelyhood
of getting a man to marry her. Besides that With regard to such a woman The exclusive
possession of her would not be worth preserving
nor is it in the a man's nature of things mankind to be suffer
any thing worth mentioning from the loss of it.

With regard to a woman of an ordinary degree
of modesty, the difficulty difficulties which the customs
of civilized society oppose to any enterprize project that
might be formed for her seduction are manifestly such that as
a husband must naturally make a husband man feel himself much more
secure in the possession of this than of any other
kind of property. An affair of this sort commonly
requires time, and it always requires privacy.
Upon an average a married couple especially if the man has any value for his wife, will spend more
of their time together than asunder. So long as
that is the case his security is entire. When the
Husband is absent it is more natural for a woman
to be in company than alone: her children, her
servants, her relations join in forming a kind of
natural circle for her defence. If her beauty or
character expose her a woman more particularly to temptation, it
is not only what he may do, but what the customs
in most places where the chastity of women is regarded
as a matter of concern, requires him to do, the placing
somebody about her person on whose fidelity
he can depend. A mother, Aunt, sister, or other
near relation of his own or of his wife's is commonly
a candidate for this office. By accidents the fidelity
of these protectors of chastity will sometimes happen to
