3. There is a spot The Wharf and Carpenters Yard called at Millbank
called the Thames Wharf late Campell and
White's now upon the decease of Mr Campbell
Mr White's alone, the property of Mr Wise of
Warwickshire Campbell & White having only 7 years
to in it, is to be sold. The Land exclusive
of Wharf and Buildings is but little more
than 2 acres: the price it was asked is £2,000. On

it is a private road leading from the Wharf to Tothill
Fields as also to a strip of land in Gardener's Grounds belonging also to
the said Mr Wise, consisting of about 11 Acres
skirting the farther in truth end of Tothill Fields. Mr
Wise has another piece of land of about 17 acres
almost but not quite contiguous to the 11-acre
piece. From his Agent Mr Smith, (who keeps
a China Shop on the South side of the Strand) and
who has the compleat direction of his affairs, I learnt
that Mr Wise would have no objection to the parting
with the whole or any part of the above property,
but (from the price put upon the Wharf
and what I have seen of the Agent who
seems a sharp man anxiously and not attentive
to the interest of his principal) the price demanded
would be such as would require the
exertion of the compulsive powers of the Act to
keep it within what would be deemed on the part
of government the bounds of moderation. The
