One of three things must happen: either his
inward opinion continues adverse to his open
declaration, and the man becomes unhappy:
or he brings them to some colour of reconciliation,
and the soundness of his intellect &
dignity of his character are the sacrifices which
cement it: or he resolves to forget his declaration
as fast as possible, & think nothing
about the matter.
I believe I shall have the testimony of most men's observation in my favor, when I suppose this state of the mind is one of the the most
common of them all: but is it absolutely necessary to
travel take this road in order to arrive at it, and have
his sincerity behind him for the Toll.
Add to this, that however well disposed he
may be to an oblivion on his own part, situations
