By From the reports which he had heard concerning me, about March
or April last, Mr Antonio A. Jonte, as that new Agent for Chile in this country was led to desire my acquaintance.
He received not only that, but my friendship & acquaintance, and to
the best of my very limited power my assistance. He declared himself
to entertain such an opinion of those works of mine as have been
published by my friend Mr Dumont in French 7 vols. 8° as is
have formed a determination to translate then or cause them to
be translated into Spanish, and printed and published at Buenos Ayres for the use of that state and Chile.
He obtained from me a list of French books, particularly in the
usual branch of science, history and politics included, as occurred
to me as both adapted to the purpose of forming contributing to form the pther mind in
those two countries. At his anxiously expressed desire, I obtained
at last two forms of diplomatic Letters of Cord, one from the King our Monarch to other
P, the others to him from the head of from a Republic to the same: to
namely the President of the Anglo-American United States: the first was the
