But the so strong and so strongly and universally
felt is the which in every country the burgess have in seeing
the rule of action in a state as path of being known, and
in every other respect as bad as possible, that all advices concurr
in representing the chance which any such offer has of finding
acceptance in any of the Assemblies as very inconsiderable
for in every Assembly the other members have in matters of law,
in that country as in this one led blindfold by the lawyers. All
advices at the same time concurr in the assurance that should
any proposed book of laws make its appearance there under my
name, it would speak with invisable influence. For the production
of such a work I have already an adequate inconorpiment,
in and by an application which has been made to me by the
constituted authorities of the Republic of Geneva to draw up a
compleat Code of Law for the use of that Commonwealth. This therefore
should not make its appearance, and have anything good in it
applicable to the circumstances of your State your State will have
the benefit of, without need of any separate labour to be undertaken by me
for that express purpose: and if I live long enough, aluck however
is not probable, from the Paint I shall pass on to the Civil Code.
