Letter III on Humphreys Code Queen's Square Place 14 Jan. 1827.

Sir, I am hereby giving effect to the intention expressed in my letter of the 30th August, honoured with an answer by your's of the 2nd of September. Inclosed, are two copies of any observations of Mr. Humphreys' work, as they appear in the 12th No. of the Westminster Review. it might perhaps be agreeable to you, I thought, to have them in a distinct state, unconnected with the periodical in which they are published for sale: in any ulterior number, they will, so long as they remain undistributed, be at you summoned. Should it happen to you to find time to look at them, you will find the fire I have begun with my pop-gun upon the Police-Salary augmenting system, continuing unrelayed: that fire which by the Right Honorable Gentleman on whom it is kept up, will perhaps either not be thought of at all or not thought of but to be laughed at. The
