Monday Evening

Now is the day of sabbath feast; – its fleeting
Care borne Were eloquent with the Almighty's praise; – again
The night descends – the countless choirs are silent,
And stillness darkness o'er the earth & in the main
Waves her wide wing; – the dark & lingering lengthening shadows
That from the mountain crossed the vale are gone;
Life on the darksome grave reposes sweetly Earth slumbers sweetly on the lap of evening

And peace looks smiling from its starry throne
O lovely world! Fair universe Thou lovely world! – Thou paradise of beauty –
Thou wonderful, thou fair & bright abode World! – scattering to whose those and To which ten thousand smiles of joy are given:
Where man may be supremely purely blessed happy Pregnant with bliss – & bright with hope & rapture –
When his heaven tending Soul is right with God. When man looks thro' thee to the gates of heaven

When with a joyful tranquil, thoughtful, grateful bosom
Enjoys the gifts of heaven – & looking on He holds breathes midst Gods pure gifts, & sees the
Sees From future days of peace & pleasure promise dawning
Not shaded by a cloud from moments gone of present night

His heart unfettered – satisfied his spirit
Looking to Still bent on heaven & drinking joy from thence
All lifes vicissitudes & scenes improving
And wide-spread nature his inheritance.
