J.B. to F.P. Q.S.P. 4 3/4 P.M.
Your note requires an answer before 4
At 1/2 pm after 4 it was delivered here
The gentleman has friends in France in Paris
to whom he and every thing about him
are perfectly unknown: to me every
thing is perfectly unknown.
Either there is time for his hearing
from them, or there there not. If there
is, he can have no need of assistance
from a stranger: if there is not, it
is his misfortune, and I see no
reason for making it mine.
If instead of at the time of his applying to a stranger
he had applied to them those friends in the first
instance, he might have received
an answer from them by this time:
perhaps for aught I know currently before the time: at
any rate within a day or two after the
time.
