A word or two as to the applications of matter
of the present publication to the legislative System of other
civilized nations.
Bonaparte's Code Of all actually established Codes
Bonaparte's being that code which is most looked to in which is in the habit of being taken foras
not only a standard of comparison for all other Code the civilized world in general, it is the only
one in which as on the present occasion may express mention
be made.
Bonapartes Code has not in any part of it, a rationale
as to for the here proposed has in every part.
For a No nation is there in any part of this
same world in which there be by students in the art and science<lb?>of legislation the works already published on this subject already</add. by the author of<lb?>these pages are not more or less known and approved,
but more particularly in France in which the liberty of
manifesting opinion on subjects of this sort is little
less than entire.

indication of an exercise of proportionable correspondent instructiveness is proposed made
may be expressed by the following rule/] Taking Bonaparte's
Code for the subject matter of consideration and the standard
