spend the money, took a fancy to part with his
note, then would hoarding and circulation be
predicable in the same subject – then would there
be hoarding and circulation one after another in
the same subject matter and the money employed
in the purchase of it would not be sunk.

2. Another The other fallacy is consists, in the holding up as an
object of scorn on account of its minuteness,⊞ ⊞ the rate of interest proposed to be given upon this paper: –
"an Annuity of 7:7d" (says our Baronet) "not equal
"to three days labour."

What is a man to make of such an argument!
Of What is it that – Of so many things –
any one of which should him have been enough to keep him, of all men,
from making use of it – what is it that the learned Baronet
does not forget? Does What is it, that he remembers? – Does
he remember the rule of three? Will he tell
you that the ratio of one to 34 33 is less in
small sums than in large?⊞ ⊞ Does he remember
that it is possible
out of a number
of small sums to
make a large one? –
out of a certain sufficient
proportionable number to make one
of any size? Does he remember
that there are such people in the world
as the poor? Does he remember that there are
more of them than of the rich? – Let him look
round among his companions acquaintances, and for every
man whom he will finds looking down on such so paltry a profit, as an object not worth stooping
for, and I will find a profit not worth earning
by a twelvemonths self denial – for every such
disdainful
