place to which he would have gone being farther
from the place he is carried to than either his
own home is or the place he was carried from,
and consequently the conveyance more tedious
and expensive, the offender does not choose to
convey him thither. Upon this state of the case, An Englishman A Londoner for instance
who being at Paris and intending 6 months hence to go to the West East Indies
is seized upon and convey'd away to
the West & East West- Indies: Now then it would certainly
be a very incompleat redress to him if
at the time that he thought to have been in
the East Indies he finds himself convey'd back
to Paris or to London. But then on the other
hand it might be more than necessarily hard
upon the offender if his repentance commencing taking place
six months for instance after the commencement
of the offence he were not to have the benefit
of it were not to commence till perhaps
a twelvemonth after. Add to this, that perhaps
he might never have it in his power at all:
the expence of conveying the offender to so vast a
distance being more than he had money to defray,
and the party injured being also without
money; in which insomuch that case the chronical part of the
punishment would by this means become perpetual —
