if to make him give up to any one the
physical possession of any article of value, an
act of robbery; if to make him acknowledge himself
guilty of any disreputable action of which
he was not guilty, an act of calumniation:
if to make him exhibit himself in any ridiculous
or degrading plight, or a personal act of insult.

Where it gives birth to a separate offence, that offence is either consummate, or an attempt It may here be observed once for all,
that where the confinement is made subservient
to the perpetration of any offences, if the
project succeeds, and the offence is actually perpetrated, to it is a particular
way of committing being concerned in the actual commission of that offence: if the
project fails and the offence is not perpetrated,
it is an attempt: and in so far to be treated upon
the footing of an attempt.
