for past standards and fastly applied , when the case

Why the corporal ignominy and the punishment
of rendering the knave's account are is
made applicable in this case at all events ?
whereas in the case of simple M mercantile
fraud there are it is left to the option of the Judge?.

Reasons .

Because the act in this ac case is the case of false standards
the act is more strongly indicative of a
habit than in the other . that of . See Introd . Ch
[Proportion &c] Rule 1 . Explan . 3 . By providing false standards
or practising the art of misapplying genuine ones
a man has provided for a regular and continued
course of fraud .
