VI Quot Thouret I abjure all mercy for M. Thouret: [I
will shew him no more than he [with the
purest intentions] has shewn to the poor.] He is
covered with well-earned glory: he has carried
enough of it for any one man's share. He may
bear rebuff after rebuff, and still hold his head
high among the first of men.
Illusion from beginning to end: illusion
three tim thrice repeated, and each time as
illusive as the first. And this then is the sophistry
which has prevailed upon M. Thouret to make
two sorts of justice: good and regulated for the
rich: bad and arbitrary for the poor.
