and accidental. Then no preventive check to those
propensities, the strength of which has brought placed the convicts
in question to the sense of punishment: propensities
the indulgence of which betrays itself to the class of crimes
or is to those habits given which are regarded
as the immediate sources of crimes: — sloth, drunkenness,
venereal irregularities, gaming, quarrelsomeness, profanity,, mischievousness,
